I work instinctively and impulsively, each piece changing throughout its creation. My inspiration is as much concerned with process as with subject matter, with the intuitive creation of images without boundaries of medium or intellectual purpose. Recurring images in my work tend to be in a form that transcends identification with a specific time or place, although they may originate with a particular organic form.
My formal education started with painting, mostly in oil. I also studied textile design and silkscreen printing. Concurrently my vocation in graphic design and print production nurtured my interest in letters and words as design elements. Over time, my painting changed to acrylic and mixed media, and letters became more gestural. When I began making prints, I discovered that monotypes and collagraphs particularly suited my working style and meshed well with the mixed-media process.
I continue to explore images and ideas from unexpected points of view and with a spontaneous approach. My hope is that my own surprise of discovery will be translated into my finished work.
