"Kay Kalar is one of the most passionate people I know………that passion shows in her paintings!" Elizabeth Tolley, Artist and Author
Kay Kalar, native Californian, has long painted with exuberance and joy. Her water media paintings are known for bright bold colors, strong composition, and sensual flowing passages.
She’s recently added oils, pastel, collage and metallic’s to her work. Bringing subjects up close and personal , she strives to capture ‘the essence’ of subjects. Current paintings called ‘In The Spirit’, are an expression of her deep faith. Capturing the California landscape is another passion. Flowers, garden motifs and ‘inner light’ are frequent themes.
Kay has had many one and two woman shows. She’s been featured artist for Fresno Philharmonic, Pinnell Gallery and others. Widely collected, awards include Best of Show and Firsts. Always seeking to learn, she has had workshops with many nationally known artists including Saliminen, Dobie, Zagotta, Tolley, Westerman, and Carlene Kostiw.
Kay feels her paintings are spiritual, romantic and emotional. She strives to seek what is most important in her current works and her life.
